Malcolm Carlisle has over 35 years practising as a barrister in the healthcare industry. He is one of the leading experts in medical device law and regulation, having been responsible in the 1990s for drafting the European legislation with the Commission. He has had transaction experience with a major UK PLC, including completion of more than 20 acquisitions and has handled all aspects of corporate legal work on an international level. Most recently, Mr Carlisle has headed a £24m UK medical equipment company, transforming profitability while investing heavily in new product development and infrastructure, and at the same time more than halving the level of net debt. For 25 years Mr Carlisle has been involved in UK and European trade association work in the device industry, helping develop the activities of the UK medical devices trade association, ABHI, and to establish the European device association Eucomed, in its present form. He is a council member of ABHI and a director of Eucomed. He has for many years helped to guide the legal and regulatory policies of both these associations. In 2007 he was awarded an OBE for his services to the industry. Mr Carlisle is also chairman and a founder member of European Justice Forum, an organisation formed in 2005 to argue for a balanced approach to civil litigation and collective redress.
